Ammoudia is our base for the high season. If it's a holiday in May, June or September you're after then head over to Lefkada.
If you’re after a sweeping sandy horse-shoe shaped bay lined with Eucalyptus trees, beautifully clear water and a very welcome on-shore breeze, then come and visit us in Ammoudia.
If you looked at a map of Greece, Ammoudia is on the mainland almost opposite Corfu (so on the Italian side of Greece, looking out onto the Ionian Sea). It isn’t a very well-known destination and there are no other UK companies who operate there – which makes it very appealing as a Serenity Retreat spot.
The hotels are a maximum of 2 minutes very slow amble to the beach and the sunbeds.
It's a really good spot for lounging on a sunbed and reading a book (or your Kindle!), gathering your thoughts or planning your next big life adventure. The village is still small enough for you to be on the receiving end of some genuine first class Greek hospitality.
The beautifully turquoise river Acheron – legendary home of the River Styx (the entrance to the Greek underworld, Hades) – flows to the sea here. It’s a short walk from the hotels to the river which is lined with restaurants and cafes.
There are a number of restaurants, a couple of mobile fruit and vegetable sellers, cafes, small supermarkets and souvenir shops and an ATM in Ammoudia. It’s perfect if your priority is relaxation and beautiful weather.
The sunsets in Ammoudia are magnificent.
The next town along is the major tourist resort of Parga. It’s a really lovely place to visit – but also good to escape from as it gets very, very busy. There is a castle on a hill to visit, winding streets to shop in and a multitude of harbour and beach-side restaurants and cafes to spend time in. There is no direct public transport but boat taxis can be hired relatively cheaply in the peak season to make the trip, or a regular car taxi can also be arranged.
Breakfast is served locally in a number of places and the price varies. All the breakfasts are quite basic and continental in style. No fry-ups available!
There are a few restaurants close to the hotels, but the majority of them are closer to the river (which is about a ten minute walk). We purposely chose the hotels that were further away from the hustle and bustle of the river so that our guests can have a little more peace and quiet. It’s also nice to get dressed in the evening (well, into a different pair of shorts) and ‘promenade’ to the restaurants.
If you’re on a budget, it’s worth considering staying at the Hotel Babos, as the owners also have a restaurant on the river (The Roxanni) and guests get a 10% discount (it's also one of the best places to eat - handy!).
The food is mainly Greek but with some Italian and German influences.
As with Nikiana (our venue on Lefkada), you won’t find much in the shape of ham, egg and chips here (but you will in Parga!)

The Acheron River and its Springs
If you want to find some cool water and a shady oasis to linger, then look no further. This trip will have you wandering off up the River Acheron (home of Hades - the entrance to the Greek Underworld) and (if you feel so moved) the chance to walk in the river or take a kayak trip down it. This short trip is thing of beauty and cool in the heat of the summer.
Day Trip into Parga
You may want to spend a bit longer than our scheduled evening in Parga, so we can arrange this for you. There is a good reason it's been pretty much recession proof over the last couple of years - it's cute!
Boat Trips to Hidden Beaches
Hire a boat for the day and head out to some tucked-away beaches. You only live once.......!
